Definition of jury questionnarie in Murray's trial begins
On Tuesday morning, the definition of the jury questionnaire started in the trial of Murray.
Over the hearing, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael E. Pastor confirmed that jury selection will begin on September 8 as planned, unless the Court of Appeal stays the involuntary manslaughter trial.
During jury selection, about 480 potential jurors will be brought in over the course of three days. Jurors will be asked if they will be able to take time off for the trial, which is expected to last about six weeks, according to the lawyers' estimates.
Those who do not meet qualifications will be dismissed and a group of 100 jurors will appear in court on September 23, where the attorneys will select or reject those who do not meet their guidelines.
Murray was in courtroom after being ordered to appear at a pre-trial hearing, but he will not be in court on Wednesday when attorneys will finalize the juror questionnaire. The hearing lasted about 20 minutes.
If the questionnaire is similar to the precedent prepared in April, it will be about 30 pages long.
It is unclear when the Court of Appeal is going to be taking up the issue regarding the request filed by Murray's lawyers on September 2 for a jury sequestration and a trial delay related to it.
Judge Pastor says he's confident justices on the Second District Court of Appeal will provide some guidance soon.
Opening statement are expected to start on September 27.
